Chenani Tunnel creates resentment among locals, rain affected villages ignored

Several delegations of the residents of Batote, Kud, Chenani and Patnitop submitted strong memorandums to Prof. Bhim Singh, Chief Patron of National Panthers Party on the havoc being created by the tunnel from Chenani to Ashri Nala (Ramban) on the Highway from Jammu to Srinagar as people have realized that three most important sectors from the tourism point of view shall be the principle victims if Chenani-Ramban Tunnel is built. The people including sarpanches, village committees and other members of the civil society called on Prof.Bhim Singh and sought his support to save the residents of the area and the future of great tourist resorts of Jammu Pradesh like Sudhmahadev, Patnitop, Batote and other areas which shall completely vanish from the geography of Jammu Pradesh if tunnel is built for the luxury and comfort of a few hundred tourists.

Prof.Bhim Singh in his communication to the press said that Patnitop sector has developed in Jammu Pradesh which can match the tourist resorts like Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonamarg and other places of the Valley. He appreciated the concern expressed by the local areas of Kud, Chenani, Batote and Patnitop and assured to fight for the cause of Jammu Pradesh.

Prof.Bhim Singh also met members of 13 families of Sugetar village in Chenani tehsil whose land and residential houses collapsed during the unprecedented rain last week. He demanded immediate relief for the families who have lost their houses and land. He said the need to be rehabilitated without delay.

Prof.Bhim Singh was caught in the traffic jam caused because of the failure if traffic police between Udhampur and Jammu. On his appeal hundreds of panches and sarpanches who had blocked the highway withdrew their dharna from the highway in Tikri and Manthal. Prof.Bhim Singh said that there is no governance in J&K and open corruption patronized by the BJP-PDP government.

Prof.Bhim Singh demanded that Chenani Tunnel project should be abandoned immediately and four lane between Banihal and Udhampur should be made first priority as has been done between Udhampur and Jammu.
