Replacing ‘collegium’ by ‘judicial commission’ shall prove disaster to democracy, judiciary

Prof. Bhim Singh, Chief Patron of National Panthers Party, Member of National Integration Council & Sr. Advocate, Supreme Court has strongly condemned the government bill introduced in the Parliament to change the collegium system by replacing the present collegium system. Prof.Bhim Singh who is also Chairman of the State Legal Aid Committee and a noted jurist observed that collegium system may be improved as there is a tremendous amount of scope in this regard. The Parliament is competent to improve the collegium. But, the introduction of judicial commission comprising of the Union Law Minister and other two so-called experienced persons to be nominated by the government irrespective of their background, qualification and political affiliation shall prove a disaster for the judicial system in the country which is at the developing state in India.

Prof.Bhim Singh has called an emergency meeting of the lawyers’ fraternity at the earliest to discuss this issue and take appropriate action to stop the NDA government from playing such a grave mischief which intends to create a committed judiciary which shall negate the essence of democracy in India.

Prof.Bhim Singh also praised the courageous statement of Chief Justice of India, Justice Mr. R.M. Lodha combined with wisdom and farsightedness in this regard.
