Talwara Migrants stage massive dharna in front of DM office in Reasi demanding relief on SC judgment

Hundreds of militancy-affected migrants of Rajouri, Reasi, Udhampur and Doda Districts resorted to a massive dharna in front of the office of District Magistrate, Reasi this morning. The migrants have been demanding implementation of 2007 Supreme Court direction to the Govts. of India & J&K payment of relief in cash and kind to the Jammu Migrants at par with the Kashmiri Migrants.
Addressing the protesting migrants Prof. Bhim Singh, Chief Patron of National Panthers Party & Member of NIC accused National Conference-Congress coalition government in J&K for ignoring and discriminating with the Jammu Migrants forcing them to starve and die in distress only because they are from Jammu Pradesh. Prof. Bhim Singh reminded Govt. of India that Supreme Court in July 2007 had directed the Central & the State governments to pay Rs.21 crores to the Jammu Migrants as arrears because the Jammu Migrants had not been provided any relief since 2004. Prof. Bhim Singh said that the Supreme Court had referred a contempt petition to the High Court of J&K in 2009 for appropriate action. He regretted that the High Court has not been able to ensure implementation of his own order in four years. He said that half of the migrants who were determined and approved by the government have been deleted from the list of the migrants. He accused the government for not being any relief to the migrants for the past nine months.
Prof. Bhim Singh declared that the Jammu Migrants may be 1000 families from Talwara shall march to Delhi in February, 2014 to stage protest dharna in front of Parliament during the next Parliament session. The migrants in a resolution decided to march to Delhi to seek implementation of Supreme Court order.
The Supreme Court shall also hear assault on JKNPP workers’ case on 4th February, 2014 which has been filed by Ms. Anita Thakur, H.C. Jalmeria & P.K. Ganju. The party leaders and hundreds of migrants both men and women were attacked by police on 7th August, 2007 near Katra while they were peacefully marching from Talwara to Delhi in support of their demands.
